What is Sheet Metal Fabrication?

Sheet Metal Fabrication RAPMAF

Building 3D Structures from 2D Sheets

Sheet metal fabrication is a comprehensive manufacturing process that turns flat sheets of steel or aluminum into a desired part or structure. It involves a combination of subtractive processes like laser cutting and punching, forming processes like bending and stamping, and assembly processes like welding and riveting. The result is a durable, lightweight, and cost-effective component ideal for everything from small brackets to large enclosures.

Inquiry & FAQs

We’ve answered some of the most common questions our customers ask about our high-precision laser cutting services.

Support format : jpeg, step, stp, sldprt, stl, dxf, ipt, x_t, x_b, 3dxml, catpart, prt, sat, 3mf, jt, webp, jpg, pdf, png, bmp, doc, zip, rar, dwg, xlsx, excel, igs, glb, gltf

We guarantee that all the files and pictures you upload will be kept confidential and no customer personal information will be disclosed.

DXF is the ideal format as it provides a flat pattern for laser cutting. However, we also accept DWG and 3D files like STEP, from which we can create the flat pattern for you.

The bend radius is the inside radius of a bend in a sheet metal part. A general rule of thumb is to design a bend radius that is at least equal to the material’s thickness to prevent cracking or distortion.

Bend relief is a small cut made at the edge of a bend line. It prevents the material from tearing or bulging at the corners during the bending process, ensuring a clean and flat final part.

Holes placed too close to a bend can become deformed during the forming process. A safe distance is at least 2.5 times the material thickness plus the bend radius from the outside of the bend.

Kerf is the small amount of material that is removed (vaporized) by the laser beam during cutting. Our systems automatically compensate for the kerf to ensure your final part dimensions are accurate.

Yes, absolutely. We can source powder coatings to match nearly any RAL or Pantone color code. Just provide us with the code you require for your project.

TIG welding provides a very clean, precise, and aesthetically pleasing weld, ideal for visible joints on materials like aluminum and stainless steel. MIG welding is faster and more cost-effective, excellent for structural joints, especially on steel.

Yes, we are a full-service fabrication shop. We can install all necessary hardware (PEMs), weld multiple components together, and perform final mechanical assembly to deliver a sub-assembly or a complete product.

Generally, cold-rolled steel (CRS) is the most cost-effective raw material. However, you must factor in the additional cost of painting or plating to prevent rust, which might make galvanized steel a cheaper all-in solution for some applications.

Our standard lead time for prototypes is typically 5-10 business days. Production lead times vary based on quantity and complexity, but a firm delivery date will always be provided with your formal quote.

We follow a strict ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. This includes first article inspections, in-process checks at each manufacturing step, and a final quality control check before packaging and shipping.

DFM stands for Design for Manufacturability. Our engineers review your design for potential issues (e.g., impossible bends, features too close to an edge) and suggest improvements that can reduce cost, improve quality, and speed up production.

Our laser cutting beds can handle sheets up to 3000mm x 1500mm (120" x 60"). While we can create very large single pieces, we can also fabricate larger assemblies by welding or fastening multiple components together.

Yes, we understand that sometimes you need parts urgently. We offer expedited services for an additional fee that can significantly reduce the standard lead time. Please contact us to discuss your specific timeline.
